What I Wore to Work Today: Costumed Edition - The weather has been a little unpredictable here in NYC. This sometimes leads to “outfits” you’re not 100% proud of. Enter - this picture. Separately, these pieces are essential parts of a wardrobe. Together, they look forced. But - cut me a break - it started raining unexpectedly and the temperature dropped like 30 degrees in an hour - this was all I could scrape together at work. Anyway - learn from my mistakes…
Vest: Old Navy Quilted Down Vest $24.50 - a vest would have worked here if it wasn’t a puffy, down option… and wasn’t green. When layering outerwear pieces, keep the outermost layer subdued. Let the other layers pop.
Sweater: J.Crew Toggle Sweater $128 - again, too much going on. This would have worked as my only layer… and without the boots… or the bag. Let the sweater do the talking.
Shirt: TOMMY Striped Long Sleeve T $22 - one of the only parts I liked….
Pants: Uniqlo Tappered Skinny Jeans in Grey $39.50 - in a perfect world I would have had these be dark, raw, unwashed navy jeans, so as not to introduce ANOTHER color to the outfit…
Boots: Hunter Rainboots $125 - these are normally fine, but when you’re wearing a longer sweater that hits below your waist (or in my case, below my buttocks), you SHOULD NOT wear tall boots. It chops your legs in “parts” and makes you appear stumpy (not good).
Additional Note: Try NOT to match your umbrella exactly to your vest - not cute… ugh! Also - make sure the pieces you scrounge together FIT. View high resolution
